How did the GMAT originate?

Essence and time

There are 4 main parts in the GMAT test - this is a quantitative (Quantitative Part), verbal (Verbal Part), integrated reasoning (Integrated Reasoning), analytical writing (Analytical Writing Assessment).

Structure of the GMAT test:

quantitative part

In the quantitative part of the GMAT test, the extent to which the tested person can justify, solve mathematical tasks, and interpret graphic information is assessed. Tasks that should test the understanding of written material are texts up to 350 words. Texts can be of different topics - from social, physical, biological sciences, from business sectors (economics, marketing, personnel management, etc.). Also after the texts there are tasks - applied, logical and interpretation questions. Here, abilities such as understanding words and statements, logical relationships between ideas and concepts of the material are tested. The ability to draw logical conclusions from the facts and statements given in the text, as well as the level of understanding of the development of quantitative concepts that are presented in the text material, is checked.

In the part where critical argumentation is supposed, the questions should assess how the test person is able to evaluate and build arguments, whether he can formulate a plan of action. Questions are based on different materials, their task is to measure the level of ability to build arguments, evaluate them and formulate actions.

The sentence correction part is choosing the one that best expresses the idea. Here it is checked how much the tested person is aware of the peculiarities of stylistics and grammar, whether he knows the rules writing. Complex reasoning

Complex reasoning appeared in the GMAT test relatively recently and is new. It measures the ability of the applicant to evaluate information from different sources and different forms. There are 12 questions in 4 formats - Graphic Interpretation, Two-Part Analysis, Table Analysis, Multi-Source Reasoning.

This part is scored from 1 to 8. It is evaluated separately, and the result does not directly affect the final test score.

This system can assess over fifty linguistic and structural characteristics, including theme analysis, idea organization, and syntactic variation. If in two systems the results are obtained with a difference of more than a point, then the result will be determined by the expert, having previously analyzed both estimates. For the analytical part, you can get from 1 to 6 points (an interval of half a point is possible), but a score of 0 is given when the speech does not correspond to the topic or is generally incomprehensible.

So, if the essay is incomplete, put 1 point, if it has minor flaws - 2 points, if limited - 3 points, if it meets the requirements - 4 points, if the essay is strong - 5 points, if outstanding - 6 points.
